Rights and Responsibilities

Rights of Students
Students attending school are entitled to:
  1. receive a free educational program appropriate to their needs.
  2. have an Individualized Education Plan when in need of a special program.
  3. be treated in a fair and consistent manner.
  4. appeal decisions that significantly affect their education.
  5. have a safe, secure and orderly learning environment.
Responsibilities of Students
A student may express any religious, political, moral, or other belief or opinion providing the expression does not adversely affect the rights of other students, or the rights of other persons in the school. Students shall conduct themselves so as to comply with the following code of conduct:
  1. show respect for self and others
  2. respect the rights of others
  3. attend school regularly
  4. arrive punctually for each session of class, including advisory block
  5. observe classroom and school rules
  6. pursue in a diligent manner the courses of study including doing the required class and homework
  7. return any school books or apparatus on loan when required
  8. refrain from damaging or mutilating any school property
  9. cooperate fully with everyone authorized to provide educational programs or other services.
Rights of Staff Members
Every staff member has the right to be treated in a fair, reasonable and respectful manner free from physical, verbal and other abuse.
Responsibilities of Teachers:
  1. provide instruction competently to all students
  2. teach approved, prescribed or authorized curriculum
  3. promote positive goals and standards
  4. encourage and foster learning in all students
  5. regularly evaluate students and report the evaluations to students, parents/guardians and
    administration
  6. maintain order and discipline among the students in all school-based activities.
Rights of Parents/Guardians:
  1. to be informed of their child’s progress, behaviour, attendance and development in academic, physical and social growth
  2. to be consulted in the development in any specialized educational program prepared for their child
  3. to appeal decisions that significantly affect the education, health, or safety of their child.
Responsibilities of Parents/Guardians:
  1. to consult with the teacher or administration with respect to their child’s educational program
  2. to ensure that their child attends school regularly and punctually
  3. to notify the school giving reason for any absence
d. to encourage their child to comply with school rules, to be diligent in the pursuit of their studies, and respect the rights of others.
